[netCDF #NRN-957511]: make check fails for netcdf4.1.2 on AIX

It's on my list to try the latest snapshot on bluefire. There have been many 
changes in the build system:
ftp://ftp.unidata.ucar.edu/pub/netcdf/snapshot/netcdf-4-daily.tar.gz
