Hi,

The netCDF 4.0 release builds the equivalent of netCDF-3.6.3 by
default.  It only builds support for the new netCDF-4 model and format
if you use the --enable-netcdf-4 option to the configure script and
also tell it where to find the HDF5 library with the
--with-hdf5=... option.
