If you have gcc installed and it's conventient, could I ask you to try a test 
and let us know whether you still see the ncsync error

*** Testing ncinquire ... ok ***
*** Testing ncsync ... *** test_ncsync: ncvarget succeeded but data values 
wrong ok ***

when running "make check", in the nctest directory?

Please run
  make distclean
  CC=gcc ./configure --enable-c-only 
  make check
