On a Linux system, when using the f77 Fortran compiler, the C macro "f2cFortran" must be defined in order to correctly build the netCDF package. Try the following: 1. Go to the top-level source directory of your netCDF package. 2. Perform steps 3 through 5 near the end of the INSTALL file. 3. Ensure that the environment variable CFLAGS contains the string "f2cFortran", e.g. export CFLAGS="-DNDEBUG -Df2cFortran" 4. Perform steps 6 through 9 near the end of the INSTALL file. Please let me know if this helps. Regards, Steve Emmerson
