Hi Boris, Thanks for providing the needed access information for your machine. It was crucial in getting things working. Here is what I found and the actions I took: 1) the reason that setting up the remote ADDE server wasn't working: The script /home/mcidas/mcidas2009.sh runs a command ('service xinetd status') and parses its output to determine if xinetd is running. It does this by looking for the word 'isrunning' in the output. The problem is that you have your machine configured to use Spanish, not English, so the return of this command was not what was expected. I made things work by modifying /home/mcidas/mcinet2009.sh to check for the output of 'service xinetd status' in Spanish. 2) the next step in getting remote serving of data available using ADDE was to adjust the firewall on your machine -- I opened up access through port 112, the port that ADDE uses 3) configuring the 'mcidas' account to be able to read the imagery files in the ~boris/$MCDATA directory and subdirectories I had to change the read/write/execute permissions for several directories so that 'mcidas' could find and read AREA files. The directories changed to have the 755 permissions were: /home/boris/mcidas /home/boris/mcidas/data /home/boris/mcidas/03ABRIL /home/boris/mcidas/02ABRIL /home/boris/mcidas/01ABRIL I also changed the read/write/execute permissions on the AREA files in the above directories to be 664. NB: when you create new sets of images in /home/boris/mcidas/data (e.g., /home/boris/mcidas/data/04ABRIL, etc.), you _must_ make sure that the directories that the AREA files are included in have 755 permissions, AND you must make sure that the AREA files have 644 permissions. If this is not clear, simply look at the existing directories/files under /home/boris/mcidas/data. 4) finally, I setup some ADDE datasets for the data you have already gathered: STORM/SND01ABRIL STORM/SND02ABRIL STORM/SND03ABRIL I verified that the images in these datasets are accessible from other machines by looking at them in McIDAS on my workstation: <me on my workstation> cd $MCDATA <in McIDAS> DATALOC ADD STORM CANTINFLAS.ATMOSFCU.UNAM.MX DSINFO IMAGE STORM Dataset Names of Type: IMAGE in Group: STORM Name NumPos Content ------------ ------ -------------------------------------- SND01ABRIL 99999 GOES Sounder imagery for 1 April SND02ABRIL 99999 GOES Sounder imagery for 2 April SND03ABRIL 99999 GOES Sounder imagery for 3 April DSINFO -- done IMGLIST STORM/SND03ABRIL.ALL Image file directory listing for:STORM/SND03ABRIL Pos Satellite/ Date Time Center Band(s) sensor Lat Lon --- ------------- ------------ -------- ---- ---- ------------ 1 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 00:46:00 20 70 1-19 2 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 01:20:00 3 37 1-19 3 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 01:46:00 20 70 1-19 4 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 02:20:00 15 37 1-19 5 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 02:46:00 20 70 1-19 6 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 03:20:00 4 67 1-19 7 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 06:46:00 20 70 1-19 8 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 07:20:00 3 37 1-19 9 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 07:46:00 20 70 1-19 10 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 08:20:00 16 37 1-19 11 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 08:46:00 20 70 1-19 12 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 09:20:00 4 67 1-19 13 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 09:46:00 20 70 1-19 14 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 10:20:00 4 67 1-19 15 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 10:46:00 20 70 1-19 16 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 11:20:00 4 67 1-19 17 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 11:46:00 20 70 1-19 18 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 12:20:00 4 67 1-19 19 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 12:46:00 20 70 1-19 20 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 13:20:00 3 37 1-19 21 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 13:46:00 20 70 1-19 22 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 14:20:00 16 37 1-19 23 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 14:47:00 20 70 1-19 24 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 15:20:00 4 67 1-19 25 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 15:47:00 20 70 1-19 26 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 16:20:00 4 67 1-19 27 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 16:47:00 20 70 1-19 28 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 17:20:00 4 67 1-19 29 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 17:46:00 20 70 1-19 30 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 18:20:00 4 67 1-19 31 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 18:46:00 20 70 1-19 32 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 19:20:00 3 37 1-19 33 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 19:46:00 20 70 1-19 34 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 20:20:00 15 37 1-19 35 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 20:46:00 20 70 1-19 36 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 21:20:00 4 67 1-19 37 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 21:46:00 20 70 1-19 38 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 22:20:00 4 67 1-19 39 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 22:46:00 20 70 1-19 40 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 23:20:00 4 67 1-19 41 G-12 SND 3 APR 04094 23:46:00 20 70 1-19 IMGLIST: done Comments: - remote access through ADDE is now available on your machine - you will access the data in the datasets I setup in McIDAS-V in the same way that you learned for the SSEC Data Center Please let me know if you have any questions.
