Hi Sibylle, re: > one question please: Is there any rectifying software available to rectify > GOES images in McIDAS AREA format to nominal satellite longitudinal position? I am not quite sure that I understand what you are asking. Are you asking if it is possible to "remap" a particular satellite image into a satellite projection where the sub-satellite longitude is different? If yes, then McIDAS-X can do what you want... I routinely use METEOSAT navigation with altered longitude as a remap target for other imagery. The reason for using METEOSAT navigation is that it represents an idealized satellite projection (all METEOSAT imagery is remapped into the idealized projection by EUMETSAT before rebroadcast). re: > I am already using McIDAS-V and VisAD. Can the rectification be done with > these software packages? Or perhaps, I should think that this should be possible using McIDAS-V/IDV (McIDAS-V is the University of Wisconsin's extension of the IDV which, in turn, is largely based on the VisAD package developed by Bill Hibbard of UW/SSEC). Exactly how you would do this I do not know off of the top of my head... I would need to work through the procedure to provide detailed guidance. re: > are there any other tools available? McIDAS-X can do what you want for sure. You can get McIDAS-X from us (Unidata) _IF_ you work for a university and have no desire to use the software outside of a university's research and education context. If, on the other hand, you are not affiliated with a university, you would need to get McIDAS directly from its primary developer, the Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) at the University of Wisconsin (UW) at Madison. The relevant email address to send questions to is address@hidden. Just so you know, getting McIDAS-X from SSEC would require that your organization join the McIDAS User's Group (MUG), and this is not free. re: > Thanks for any help you can offer. No worries.
