I looked at your surface file. The station ID's in your file are 
given using lower case letters. All station IDs are supposed to be
capital letters as is found in the coded data stream. That could be 
your problem.

In sflist, the area=@sauf1 is not recognized as a station ID:
 GEMPAK-SFLIST>area = @sauf1
 GEMPAK-SFLIST>r
 PARM = PRES;GUST;SPED;DRCT;TMPC;SSTC;DWPC

Using, area=fl does show me stations based on lat/lon:
  sauf1    000126/0000   1009.30
  42007    000126/0000   1016.70
  42001    000126/0000   1016.80
  fpsn7    000126/0000   1004.90


I was able to plot data using sfgram where the station was in the ship file
as SAUF1 from my realtime dcmsfc decoder:

 Traces: 
     SAUF1     tmpf
