Mark,

Please try this:

    1.  Go to the top-level source-directory.

    2.  Set the environment variable LD_MATH to "-lm" (without the
        quotes).  (I think LIBS might have been a red herring.)

    3.  Execute the commands "make distclean", "./configure", "make", etc.
