[netCDF #ZIW-778464]: make check fail

Hello,

The tests in the `h5_test` directory are designed to test the hdf5 
installation, and don't contain any specific netCDF code.  This failure 
suggests that there is an issue with the hdf5 library you have installed.  Can 
you tell me what version of HDF5 you are using, and how it was installed?
