Sorry for saying things you already know.
1. The netcdf library version numbers do not
have anything to do with netcdf-3(classic)
vs netcdf-4(enhanced). So both library version
4.3 and 4.4 can support both netcdf-3 and netcdf-4.
2. You need to make a decision. If you want to use
netcdf-3(classic), then you cannot use 8-byte
integers.
