[netCDF #UHO-898473]: question: linking with netCDF C++ 4.1.3.

You can actually install both the old and new C++ libraries in the same 
directory without any name conflicts.  But using a different API than
your coworkers might interfere with collaborations :-).

The .la file is used by libtool.  Here's a better explanation
