[netCDF #JNH-860762]: Problems with CDL/vlen example

Hi Lynton,

I've verified that this bug has finally been fixed in the upcoming HDF5-1.8.11 
release.  

If you want to apply the patch to your currnt HDF5 version, see the Jira ticket:
