It was in the works, before the developer working on it left for a
different position.  Currently, it's something we'd like to find the
time for, along with a large number of other enhancements we'd like to
do when resources are available.

> How can I read a cdf-5 pnetcdf file?  Is there a nf_open flag for this?

At this time, the only way to do it is to use parallel-netcdf:
