You downloaded the netCDF source, from which you can build and install the
netCDF
libraries and executables by following the instructions here:
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/netcdf/docs/netcdf-install/Quick-Instructions.html
If you just want to install binaries, you can use a package installer such as
yum (for Linux) or fink (for MacOSX), but you may not get the latest version,
see:
