New Client Reply: unable to read SST data as a grid
John-
With the latest ncIdv.jar, I'm getting messages like:
Sep 28, 2010 6:16:04 AM ucar.grib.grib1.GribPDSParamTable
addParameterUserLookup
SEVERE: could not
read:/Users/dmurray/.unidata/idv/DefaultIdv/grib1lookuptable.lst
Sep 28, 2010 6:16:04 AM ucar.grib.grib1.GribPDSParamTable
addParameterUserLookup
SEVERE: could not read:/ucar/unidata/idv/grib1lookuptable.lst

addParameterUserLookup
SEVERE: could not
read:/ucar/unidata/idv/resources/grib1lookuptable.lst
Has something changed in the reading of these files?
Yuan and Julien, please hold off the release until we can get this
figured out.
Don
Don,
No problem, in the mean time, I can spend time on the document.

all these problems should be fixed in latest CDM release, should

Thanks, John.

Ive made the fix for those netcdf files.
Thanks for the quick response.
However, one of the parameters in the weekly grib file is
coming up as
Richardson_number. In reality, it should be the error
estimate. wgrib
shows:
[dmurray@mac16 grids]$ wgrib oisst.19811101.grb
1:0:d=81110100:TMP:kpds5=11:kpds6=1:kpds7=0:TR=1:P1=0:P2=0:TimeU=2:sfc:anl:NAve=0
2:97284:d=81110100:var254:kpds5=254:kpds6=1:kpds7=0:TR=1:P1=0:P2=0:TimeU=2:sfc:anl:NAve=0
3:154068:d=81110100:ICEC:kpds5=91:kpds6=1:kpds7=0:TR=1:P1=0:P2=0:TimeU=2:sfc:anl:NAve=0
this is showing "var254" ? how do you know its the error
estimate?
That's what's in the weekly binary files described here:
ftp://ftp.emc.ncep.noaa.gov/cmb/sst/oisst_v2/README
We pull that out of the binary files and put it into netCDF
files here:
http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/thredds/catalog/Datasets/noaa.oisst.v2/catalog.html?dataset=PSDgriddedData/noaa.oisst.v2/err.wkmean.1990-present.nc
yes, ive realized its NCEP "version 128" table, which we dont
have. Ive sent email to NCEP to see if i can get it in some
machine-readbale format, or if i have to screen scrape it (the
usual NCEP method).
