Hi Preeti, > there seems to be a conflict between the --enable-shared and the fortran > compilation. You may be right. I noticed that none of our current nightly tests and none of the tests that were run on 4.1.1 used --enable-shared, so it is apparently not a very well tested option. Was this run still on a Bluegene-L? It would be helpful if you could provide the information requested here, so we could try to duplicate the problem knowing all the environment variables and flags used for running the configure script: http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/netcdf/docs/netcdf-install/Reporting-Problems.html Thanks! --Russ > make[3]: Entering directory > `/home/pd605077/rpmbuild/BUILD/netcdf-4.1.1/fortran' > /bin/sh ../libtool --tag=FC --mode=link f77 -L/lib > -version-info 4:0:0 -o libnetcdff.la -rpath /usr/lib64 fort-attio.lo > fort-control.lo fort-dim.lo fort-genatt.lo fort-geninq.lo fort-genvar.lo > fort-lib.lo fort-misc.lo fort-v2compat.lo fort-vario.lo fort-var1io.lo > fort-varaio.lo fort-varmio.lo fort-varsio.lo ../libsrc/libnetcdf.la > libtool: link: f77 -shared .libs/fort-attio.o .libs/fort-control.o > .libs/fort-dim.o .libs/fort-genatt.o .libs/fort-geninq.o > .libs/fort-genvar.o .libs/fort-lib.o .libs/fort-misc.o > .libs/fort-v2compat.o .libs/fort-vario.o .libs/fort-var1io.o > .libs/fort-varaio.o .libs/fort-varmio.o .libs/fort-varsio.o -rpath > /home/pd605077/rpmbuild/BUILD/netcdf-4.1.1/libsrc/.libs -rpath > /usr/lib64 -L/lib ../libsrc/.libs/libnetcdf.so > -L/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-redhat-linux/3.4.6 > -L/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-redhat-linux/3.4.6/../../../../lib64 > -L/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-redhat-linux/3.4.6/../../.. -L/lib/../lib64 > -L/usr/lib/../lib64 -lfrtbegin -lg2c -lm -lc -lgcc_s -soname > libnetcdff.so.4 -o .libs/libnetcdff.so.4.0.0 > f77: libnetcdff.so.4: No such file or directory > f77: unrecognized option `-rpath' > f77: unrecognized option `-rpath' > f77: unrecognized option `-soname' > make[3]: *** [libnetcdff.la] Error 1 > > configuring and compiling without --enable shared seems to build the > static fortran libs without any problem on my platform. > for building the shared library, I have to set --disable-fortran. > on redhat 5 I have > GNU Fortran (GCC) 3.4.6 20060404 (Red Hat 3.4.6-4) > > perhaps --enable-shared should only build c shared library? > > Russ Rew UCAR Unidata Program address@hidden http://www.unidata.ucar.edu Ticket Details =================== Ticket ID: EFH-651694 Department: Support netCDF Priority: Normal Status: Closed
