Hi Chris. This bug was fixed since the 3.6.3 release, so you could use either the 4.0.1-beta release ftp://ftp.unidata.ucar.edu/pub/netcdf/netcdf-beta.tar.gz or the daily snapshot, or wait until the official 4.0.1 release comes out later this month. Despite the "4.0.1" version number, this will build a netCDF-3 release by default or if you leave off the --enable-netcdf-4 option to configure.
