[netCDF #DTX-704143]: netCDF 3.6.2 on mac OSX 10.5 with intel

Sorry, the only additional suggestions I can think of are to specify

  setenv CFLAGS "-no-multibyte-chars"

and or

  setenv LC_ALL "C"

Also in case you are trying to build the library as root rather than a normal
user, you might try doing "make check" as a normal user, then "make install"
as root.  That way the compilation will be done as a normal user, and you may
get a default locale that will work with the icc compiler ...
