Tim, This is apparently not just a netCDF problem, but common to use of the icc compiler on Leopard with a configure script. This link gives one possible workaround, setting the compiler to "icc -no-multibyte-chars": http://macresearch.org/update-intel-compilers-leopard I thik a better solution would be to try setting your locale to C with something like export LANG=C before running the configure script.
