Dave,

If all you need is ncdump, you can discard the other directories.  The
share/man/man1 directory has "man" reference documentation ofr ncdump and
ncgen, but that documentation is also available online from

  http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf/docs/

The executales are statically linked, so don't need the library files in lib,
and the files in the include directory are only for use in writing programs
that use the netCDF libraries.
