Hi Michael,

The netcdf-4.0-alpha17 version is alpha test code that is still under active 
development and porting, and the primary developer is on vacation for a couple 
of weeks.  Sorry, but I'm afraid you will have to wait until he returns for an 
answer.  If you want to keep helping debug the alpha release, you might get 
further by using the "--disable-extreme-numbers" option to configure, although 
I'm not sure this will get past the errors you are seeing.

The latest supported release is netCDF-3.6.2.
