I don't think Solaris has anything to do with it. I just checked that downloads from the URLs ftp://ftp.unidata.ucar.edu/pub/netcdf/netcdf.tar.gz ftp://ftp.unidata.ucar.edu/pub/netcdf/netcdf.tar.Z work fine from Firefox, Mozilla, or Netscape on a Solaris 9 platform. There has never been an issue with using ASCII mode rather than binary mode for netCDF downloads using FTP and a browser running on Solaris (or any other platform I'm aware of). You only have to set binary mode when using the default ftp client from the command line (as with every other platform). I'm not sure what the problem is, but it's evidently with your client rather than the ftp.unidata.ucar.edu server. --Russ _____________________________________________________________________ Russ Rew UCAR Unidata Program address@hidden http://www.unidata.ucar.edu
