The second to last line defines the error: http://my.unidata.ucar.edu/content/software/netcdf/faq.html#win 'configure' is looking for the application 'nm', but can't find it. This means that you do not have the directory in which 'nm' should be found on your Solaris 5.9 system defined in your PATH. 'nm' should be found in the /usr/ccs/bin directory on your system: % uname -a SunOS zero.unidata.ucar.edu 5.9 Generic_112233-11 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-4 % which nm /usr/ccs/bin/nm So, add this directory to your PATH and rerun 'configure'.
