Oops, sorry, we just made a new release, and so until we make changes
to that, there is no beta version.  We have a netCDF 3.6.0 alpha
release, but we're not yet ready to make that available for testing
for a few weeks.  So for now, please use version 3.5.1:

 ftp://ftp.unidata.ucar.edu/pub/netcdf/netcdf.tar.Z

I've make a link for the beta version in the FTP directory that points
to the recently released version, until we have a beta version that
differs from it.  Thanks for pointing out the problem.
