The above error indicates that you are using version 5.8 of the perl(1)
utility. There appears to be a bug in this version. The only
workaround that I know is to use a different version of perl(1).

You succeeded in the installation. If you use the netCDF module with
perl 5.8, however, then you might encounter the same segmentation
violation.
