If the VERSION still says 3.5.0, it's not the beta with the C++
fixes.  Please get the beta version from:

  ftp://ftp.unidata.ucar.edu/pub/netcdf/netcdf-beta.tar.Z
or
  ftp://ftp.unidata.ucar.edu/pub/netcdf/netcdf-3.5.1-beta13.tar.Z

(these are the same).  When you unpack the compressed tar file, the
top-level directory should be

  netcdf-3.5.1-beta13/

The VERSION file in netcdf-3.5.1-beta13/src/VERSION should contain the
single line

3.5.1-beta13

I'm not sure where you got a beta version that says it's 3.5.0, but it
doesn't contain the C++ fixes that are needed to work with newer g++
compilers.  Please let us know if you still have problems with the C++
interface using the beta version.  Thanks.
