We've created a beta-test version of a new netCDF package that should
fix your problem.  The release is available at the following URL

    ftp://ftp.unidata.ucar.edu/pub/netcdf/netcdf-3.5-beta2.tar.Z

If you use it, would you please let us know if it solves your problem.
