Dear Dr.Russ:

 I met a interested problem. After I finished your mail,
what I do first is :
rm -r netcdf-3.3a,
it is my old directory installed netcdf
tar xf netcdf-3.3a.tar,
cd netcdf-3.3a/src,
./configure,
the result is as same as yours, then
make all test,
but the errors retains and same as last.

So I followed your suggest:
rm -f config.cache,
make clean
./configure
make all test
You guess what happen, it is OK! I don't understand why, there is a
difference between us, my system is AIX 4 on my IBMRS6000 workstation.
