Sorry, but we haven't tried making a shared object for netCDF on HPUX.  We
used to try to support this option in our Makefiles, but there were too many
variations (every OS did it differently) so we ultimately had to give up
trying to maintain them all.

You might try posting your question to the netcdfgroup mailing list; I know
there are some HPUX users out there.  Another possibility would be to email
the maintainers of the MEXCDF MATLAB-netCDF interface at Woods Hole:
address@hidden (Rich Signell).  I don't know that they have HP
platforms, but it's possible.
