It looks like you didn't CD to the correct directory before attempting
the download.  You have to go to the 'unix/780/bugfix' directory
before doing the get:

3) FTP the addendum to your machine and unpack it:
   ftp ftp.unidata.ucar.edu
     <user> umcidas
     <pass> XXXXXX
     cd unix/780/bugfix
     binary
     get mcupdate.tar.Z
     quit
   ./mcunpack

Opps.  Guess that's what happens when you try to do too many things at
