Enter your request line in your ldmd.conf:

request UNIDATA shortfin.ldgo.columbia.edu

then 

ldmadmin start

This should begin the data flow.

I am not sure if you have your pqact.conf file set up yet, if so then all
de-coding and filing will also take place as you desire, otherwise the
data will not know where to go...
