Hi Gilles, re: > Trying to install correctly IDV on a computer for the school that runs only > windows xp. OK, this should be straightforward. re: > I have done it correctly on linux with no problem but I am missing > something here on windows (should not it be simpler?) . Hmm... The installation on Windows (either XP or Win7) should be very simple: - download the appropriate IDV installer from the Unidata website and then run the installer re: > Actually the computer is new and came quite "naked" As long as the video driver is up to date, this should pose no problems. re: > I installed IDV, java and java 3d, and I get error messages like on the > attached douments without any map or any image on the map view window The IDV installer for Windows (either flavor) comes with its own version of Java and Java 3D. There is no need to install either Java or Java 3D individually. re: > What am I doing wrong and what should I do? I would do as I suggested above: download the installer (probably 32-bit windows version since most XP installations are not 64-bit) to the desktop; double click on the installer icon; allow the installer to install the package on your machine, and then run the installed version. If you run into problems with the above procedure, please let us know exactly what you see that does not work. Example: The startup window is created and the IDV is loading, but it disappears and removes the startup window so you have no indication of what happened. The cause of this kind of failure can be a video driver that is not up to date or something else less obvious.
