Hi Dave,
    The problem of opening the dataset in the data server is no longer 
supported. In the past, we converted the grid file to nc to support some user 
requirements, and these services had stopped for a while. You should use the 
grided dataset to replace the original one. In the catalog, IDV catalog > 
Unidata IDD Model Data > UCAR > North American Model > NCEP NAM CONUS 80 KM.
