We are working on it, but for these files, we would need to have the information to relate sigma to a vertical pressure or height coordinate. The netCDF CF convention has ways of specifying this: http://www.cgd.ucar.edu/cms/eaton/cf-metadata/CF-1.0.html#vnum and that is the path we are taking to support sigma (and other dimensionless) vertical coordinates at this point.
