Donna,
This sounds as if you are either using a windows editor to look at
the pqact.conf file, or your mail reader isn't on your unix box.
I placed the file at:
my.unidata.ucar.edu/content/software/gempak/pqact.ku
I added the "xv" flags to the -l for debug output as well.
You can go to that URL and do a "save as" to avoid your mail mime tool.
The LDM pqact has lots of trouble if the pqact.conf is edited
with a windows editor and has not been passed through "dos2unix".
Since you are seeing the time stamp of the directory changing,
then the .temporary_netcdf file should be getting created, however
since you don't get the resultant GEMPAK file, then possibly either
the file name is getting clobbered with the spaces, or your
$GEMTBL/pack/acars.pack is unreadable by the ldm user (weasw).
