Steven, The color allocation trouble is typically caused by the X server not using an 8 bit default visual. Make sure you have configured your X server for 8 bits. If you are running with the display as 8 bits, use the "freeColors" program to check your color table allocation. In particular, some Linux window managers will reserve all the colors as read-only which is not compatible with GEMPAK. Steve Chiswell Unidata User Support >From: "Steven E.
