Christopher, In regards to running GEMPAK on a RedHat 7.2 system using the XFree86 server: Yes, GEMPAK runs on Linux using the XFree86 server. When running under linux, you should run the linuxconfig and set the display to be 8 bits (256 colors) See other configuration information: http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/glimpse/gempak/4898 http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/glimpse/gempak/4586 Use the KDE, FVWM or TWM window managers. Gnome allocates all colors as read-only which is not compatible with GEMPAK. Another solution is to run 2 X servers, one in 24 bit mode, the other in 8 bit mode, and hot swap between then using the cntl-F7/F8.
