The reason it's still showing in the Product Browser is because you also have to delete the relevant entries from the database. I believe you'll need to delete entry/entries in the grid table and possibly the grid_info table as well. And then I think all you should need to do is start CAVE with a clear cache (caveData removed before starting like you previously had done).
