Our AWIPS developer is out of the office at the moment, so I'm jumping in
to ** hopefully ** answer your questions...

Yes, but "EDEX server going out and getting data" is better phrased as
the LDM portion of the AWIPS EDEX installation REQUESTs the data that
the site wants in the exact same way that it is used for other packages.
The EDEX component of the AWIPS installation then ingests the data
received and makes it available to CAVE client(s).
