Hi John, I believe HDF5 plans were to implement the "bitfield packing" filter described at the end of this RFC by Quincey Koziol: http://hdf.ncsa.uiuc.edu/RFC/NBitPacking/NBitPacking.html It's also my understanding that this would be in the HDF5 1.8 release, but I'm not as sure about that. --Russ
