Two more questions:
1. Are you using a file system with vary large disk block sizes, such as Lustre
or the NCAR GLADE system? The disk block size on desktop systems is
typically
1KB or 8KB, whereas for high-performance platforms with Lustre and similar
file systems, it can be much larger, e.g. 1MB or 4MB.
2. Are you using parallel I/O?
