I'm appending information about a mailing list that we recently set up for discussion of developing CF conventions for satellite data and products. Please join this mailing list and participate in the discussions, so we can all benefit from collaborating and pooling our knowledge to draft conventions, best practices, and standards for storing and accessing such data. --Russ Date: Wed, 17 Mar 2010 15:23:11 -0600 From: John Caron <address@hidden> To: address@hidden Subject: [cf-satellite] CF satellite discussion group Sender: address@hidden You are receiving this message because you have been subscribed to address@hidden You can manage your membership from this page: http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/support/mailinglist/mailing-list-form.html#subscribe Please direct anyone else who wants to join to that page. Archives will be publicly viewable from this page: http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/mailing_lists/archives/cf-satellite/ Heres what has been said so far: ------------------- This is an introductory email to introduce everyone and start an ad-hoc group to discuss CF conventions for satellite data. Feel free to forward this to anyone else appropriate. As background, Russ and I attended a meeting last week called by John Bates, head of the satellite division at NCDC. One of the outcomes of that was to get one of his engineers, Ken Roberts, started on the task of marshalling a CF convention for satellite data though the CF standards process. Ken will also work on software in the CDM stack to implement whatever that standard requires. Meanwhile, the CDM/IDV groups here at Unidata have been having an ongoing discussion with SSEC about various issues in reading satellite data through the CDM and IDV stacks. SSEC also has resources to contribute to this problem. So I propose that we form an ad-hoc working group to collaborate and make some progress together. In terms of process, we can host an email group here so anyone who wants to follow the conversation can just join or look at the email archives, etc. Once we have a CF proposal, we would then move the discussion onto the CF TRAC site. Once we have that email group set up, it would be helpful (to me) if the NOAA group and the SSEC group (and anyone else) would briefly introduce themselves, and clarify their immediate interests, specific datasets, resources and expertise they can provide, etc. Lets think in terms of goals and realistic deliverables in, say, a 6 month time-frame. --------------------- Please post further discussion to this group. thanks! _______________________________________________ cf-satellite mailing list address@hidden For list information or to unsubscribe, visit: http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/mailing_lists/ Russ Rew UCAR Unidata Program address@hidden http://www.unidata.ucar.edu Ticket Details =================== Ticket ID: XMR-419625 Department: Support netCDF Priority: Normal Status: Closed
