[netCDF #XLI-953526]: Problems compiling for R

Hi Ken,

I think you need to have built netCDF with the proper CFLAGS option
for position-independent code, maybe -fPIC.  Why R requires this,
I'm not sure, but evidently the static netCDF library you have won't
work for R.
