[netCDF #NZA-172884]: netcdf-3.6.2 for Darwin

Hi Steven,

The file at

  
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/downloads/netcdf/binary/darwin_8.8-power_macintosh/netcdf-3.6.2.tar.gz

is a precompiled binary for users to install without compiling from
source.  That's probably the file you got.  It's OK if you have the
platfomr it was built for (a PowerPC Mac) and don't need to compile a
Fortran interface, for example.

I would recommend just getting the source release, which is designed
to be built on any platform (there is no MacOS X specific version):

It will have the directories and configure script you are looking for.
