Hi Paula,

Ed is on vacation for another week, so I'll try to answer your question.

Since we just released netCDF version 3.6.2 and it works better with Fortran-90 
compilers than 3.6.1, you might try building it instead if you have problems 
with the 3.6.1 Fortran-90 interface.  You can get 3.6.2 here:

The links there give you the sources used to build the libraries on any 
Unix/Linux system, following the simple directions here:

We don't use MATLAB here, so you might have better luck getting answers to 
MATLAB/netCDF questions from other MATLAB users or from some of the developers
