Hi Stu, There are multiple ways to represent such grids in netCDF, so what you really need is a convention. For example, the CF Conventions 1.0 has a section on Grid Mappings and Projections: http://cf-pcmdi.llnl.gov/documents/cf-conventions/1.0/cf-conventions.html#grid-mappings-and-projections that shows one agreed upon method for representing multidimensional grid mappings, and there is also an appendix to the CF conventions that gives more specific examples of grid mappings based on projections. See also the example in section 5.2 of the CF conventions for how to handle coordinates and coordinate systems that are not defined by a projection. Work is underway to extend the CF conventions to handle unstructured grids and meshes. If the current CF conventions version 1.0 is not sufficient for your needs, it may be covered by one of the new conventions being proposed. For examples of this work, see the presentations from the recent NOAA Community Standards for Unstructured Grids Workshop: http://cf-pcmdi.llnl.gov/trac/wiki/BoulderWorkshop --Russ --Russ Russ Rew UCAR Unidata Program address@hidden http://www.unidata.ucar.edu Ticket Details =================== Ticket ID: KMU-404361 Department: Support netCDF Priority: Normal Status: Closed
