The last report we heard was about a year ago, from a user who said netCDF built fine from source if you use CC=gcc and don't specify any optimization (CFLAGS='') and don't try to compile the Fortran90 interface (F90=''). This user had run into a compiler problem (an infinite loop) using the sgif90 compiler ... It may be that the itanium compilers have improved since then so you may be able to use something other than gcc. We'd be interested to know whether you can build and test successfully with a different compiler, or if not, what goes wrong. To report problems, please see the notes at the end of the installation instructions http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/netcdf/INSTALL.html --Russ
