>From: address@hidden >Subject: problems with installaing netCDF >Organization: Univ. of Trieste, Dept. Earth Sciences >Keywords: 199703051749.KAA18079 netCDF C Hi Carla, > I intend installing netcdf-2.4.2 on a SUN ULTRA1. > I have the following compilers: C++ and Fortran90 (including fortran77). Is > installation of a C compiler indispensable for netcdf? Yes, a C compiler is needed for that version of netCDF, because the library code does not have prototypes for all internal functions. The next version of netCDF, version 3, may work with only a C++ compiler, but we haven't tested that yet. The current pre-release of version 3 is available for testing, but is still missing some components, such as documentation for the new release features and the C++ interface. --Russ _____________________________________________________________________ Russ Rew UCAR Unidata Program address@hidden http://www.unidata.ucar.edu
