Not really.  While we're working on netCDF-3, however, bug reports (such
as yours) do come in for netCDF-2.  Ergo...

Someone should definitely pick netCDF-3 as that's the way we're going.
Unfortunately, it doesn't yet have a FORTRAN interface or a User's
Guide.
