Hi Mark,
The netCDF-Java page (http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf-java/) has some links to the various formats currently supported by the netCDF-java library. Also, you might look at the Unidata data page (http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/data/) for other information.
